Weeks later, at a police press conference, Jack is shot by the wife of a man he put away when he was still on the force. As Tyler, Jack, Dale, Beezer, and Doc leave Black House the refugee children pour out of Black House before the house itself is destroyed. When the Big Combination is destroyed, evils throughout the multiverse shrivel and die. Jack tells Tyler to destroy the Big Combination (the Crimson King's skyscraper-sized "power plant" used to spread evil through the multiverse) and free the thousands of slave children. There they encounter Munshun, and Jack kills him with Ty Marshall's baseball bat. Jack, Chief Gilbertson, Beezer St Pierre, and Doc make their way through the Black House and arrive in the Furnace Lands. When Burnside disobeys Munshun's order to deliver Tyler to the Crimson King and instead tries to take the boy for himself, Tyler fights back and kills him. After a wild killing spree that includes the murder of Jack's best friend, the mortally wounded Burnside leaves Black House and escapes to a hellish, volcanic region of End-World called the Furnace Lands, where Tyler Marshall is being held prisoner.
